Headache and migraines happen all the time and we can’t change that, what we can do is try to better our healthy habits and implement 5 simple tips that we can use to ease the agonizing pain that headaches can cause without going to our doctor an
d not even going to the drugstore. Start doing these 5 things and you are going to feel the changes yourself. There are two types of headache: pressure headache, and migraine.
Use Ice or a Warm Towel Depending on the Type of Headache You Have.
When having a migraine the best thing to do is take a cold pack and place it on your forehead. You can use ice wrapped in a towel, a bag of frozen vegetables, or you can take a cold shower which is not comfortable but it is going to help you ease the pain in your head. Keep the cold bag or towel compressed to your head at least 15 minutes and then take a 15 minutes break. Or if you are having a pressure headache you can apply a hot/warm towel on the tight muscles on your neck or your jaw this will loosen them and stop the headache.
Let Your Hair Loose From the Ponytail!
Yes girls ponytails can cause pressure headache and by letting your hair loose you can save yourself from this kind of pain or if you want to have a ponytail I would advise you to have it loosen up. These kind of headache also know as compression headaches can be caused not only from a ponytail but also from wearing a hat, headband, or even swimming goggles that are too tight. Researchers had a bunch of women loosen up their hair and when the subjects of the research (the women) were asked about the headache a week after they answered that the headaches were gone.
Embrace Your Dark Side!
Flickering lights, the light from the computer or smartphone or even really bright lights, may cause migraines. If you discover that you are suffering from migraines cause from these factors we would recommend you to blackout your windows, wear sunglasses in your house and out of it, add some anti-glare screens to your PC and use daylight spectrum fluorescent light bulbs as your light source.
Spit the Gum You’re Chewing and Stop Chewing Gum!
Along with hurting the jaw chewing gum can also cause headaches. Your will also have a headache if you chew your fingernails, your lips, the inside of your cheeks or even chewing some everyday objects like pencils, pens etc. Stop eating crunchy and sticky food, and stop taking really big bites. Consult your Doctor for a mouth guard if someone tells you that you are grinding your teeth at night because that might be causing your morning headaches.
Take Medications in Moderation!
Pharmacies are stacked with new headache pills everyday and they have them for each and every kind of headache too! They might work but the most beneficial and least risky way is presented in the following guidelines:
- Choose liquid over pills. Your body absorbs it faster.
- Take painkillers as soon as you feel pain. You’ll likely beat it with a smaller dose.
- Avoid drugs that contain caffeine or multiple ingredients. These are more likely to cause “rebound” headaches. This is what happens when you take medicines too often or for too long. They actually make your condition worse, not better.
